Policy Statement - Ratified by School Council

Statement

The philosophy of providing quality education through a partnership between teachers, children and parents is a focus of Albany Rise P.S. Children need to feel that their input is valued and integrated into the school decision-making process.

Purpose

1. To provide a forum whereby students can participate in decision- making processes of the school.
2. To develop student responsibility for the implementation of school activities.
3. To enhance students' sense of belonging to a P-6 group within the school.
Guidelines
1. Junior leadership involves School Captains, House Captains, Vice Captains and Junior School Council Representatives.
2. Children will be provided with opportunities during their junior schooling to develop leadership skills.
3. Children will have a variety of leadership opportunities which include School Captains, House Captains and Junior Council representation.
4. Children will be recognised in their leadership positions by wearing a badge stating their position and their picture will be displayed in the window outside the school entrance.
5. Children will develop a sense of team spirit by belonging to a nominated House. Children in the same family will belong to the same house.

Evaluation and Reporting

Roles and responsibilities of student leadership will be reviewed annually. Mention of children's roles and responsibilities will be made in mid-year and end of the year reports.
