From the 15th -18th of August, 69 Year 5/6 students attended Camp Kangaroobie!!!

Over the 4 days students experienced:
Farm activities, ranging from feeding lambs- to kissing pig bottoms!
Survival game in the environment
A muddy and resilience testing obstacle course
and canoeing!

Students (and teachers) trekked over 10km through incline, sand and mud across Jellybean river, to the beach- (in less than perfect weather) for some sand dune tobogganing and lunch.

All students participated in our interactive Trivia Night and Talent Show, where students demonstrated a tremendous rage of talent, from speeches to raps, to dislocating shoulders while doing the splits and some beautiful singing. The night also featured some very exciting special guest judges!

We watched Norm of the North on our movie night and devoured lots of marshmallows that we toasted by the indoor fire pit.

We all found it very hard to say goodbye to the 3 four legged friends on the farm Bucket, Jedi and Luna!

Students discovered the ‘funnest game in the world’ in the Gaga Pit!

We visited the historic landmark The 12 Apostles and the infamous Loch Ard Gorge. This was a fascinating experience, as students have been learning about the history of Australia’s Shipwreck Coast.

Thank you to all the staff who made this camp possible and who assisted in making sure everything ran smoothly.

We hope everyone had a memorable experience and is well rested for school tomorrow.

Science Fun!!!

The inquiry topic for students in Years 5 and 6 this term is Chemical Science. Students will be participating in a range of different science experiments, determining the properties of liquids, solids and gases.

One of the experiments is, turning a liquid (milk) into a solid (ICE CREAM!!). Students had a great time learning how to  drop the temperate of the milk so much, it turns into yummy ice cream.

5/6’s teaching the Foundation students

Students in 5/6 have been learning how to write procedural texts. Today, the 5/6s used their “how to-s” to teach the students in Foundation different skills, games and creations (such as paper places and stick puppets). Fun was had by all!

5/6s in the Art Room!

Year 5/6L and 4/5H started the semester by looking at work by Andy Warhol. The children produced some very colourful soup cans that were inspired by his artwork. We also had some very creative soup names including Confetti Soup, Sloth Soup and Coke Soup…….yum!!!!

These grades have also been working on a radial symmetry relief sculpture. The children were introduced to three basic paper folds and then they let their creatively take over. Aren’t the results amazing?

IMAX and Scienceworks Excursion

IMAX

IMAX, SCIENCEWORKS AND PLANETARIUM

Last Friday (3rd of June, 2016), the students in Years 3-6 went on an excursion. First we had to get on the bus at 8.20am just so that we can beat the early morning traffic. We got to IMAX at about 9.15am to watch a documentary about space in 3D! It was pretty sick seeing all the galaxies up close. Then we hopped back on the bus to go to Scienceworks and the Planetarium. In the Planetarium we watched a cartoon about the seasons and Earth’s tilted axis. Then we looked at star constellations. After that we looked around Scienceworks. There were sports, the future (think ahead) and there was even an Alice in Wonderland themed area! After all the wandering and looking all we all went on the bus and to go back to school.

IMAX, Scienceworks and planetarium!

Last Friday, the 3, 4, 5 and 6’s went to IMAX and Scienceworks. First we went to IMAX. It was the best. We watched a 40 minute documentary about space. We loved it more because it was in 3D. After IMAX we went to Scienceworks. We all went into groups. All of the groups played games and watched a movie in the planetarium. Everyone loved it because we looked up in the sky and watched the movie. Then we went on the bus and came back to school.

Clever Kids is Back!

Clever Kids is Back!

Students participated in their first session of Clever Kids this term. Students were involved in many different activities including, coding, gardening, drama, knitting, yoga, zumba, cooking, chess, science, clay making and guitars.

I love my Clever Kids activity because when you go to the garden there’s a lot of plants and lots of tools to use. It’s messy but really fun to do. It helps to know good plants for the garden and for winter.

Clever Kids was really exciting. We did great things in Snazzy Science. The first was the egg drop, then we did Mentos with soft drinks and bottle rockets. My favourite was the bottle rockets because ours was the highest. Next term I want to do drama.

I really enjoyed my Clever Kids lessons in ‘Fun with Clay’. We made three different things each. I made a pizza on a plate, a Christmas tree and an ‘s’ which stands for Summer. Fun with Clay was my number one choice and I got it. Yay! We also learnt about all of the materials.

By Summer

I love playing chess because we verse each other and it’s very hard, fun and confusing to play chess.

By Dean

Wow. I love drama in Clever Kids. In drama you get the opportunity to do lots of acting in different scenarios. It is really fun. It will be so hard to choose something else next term.
